Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Thursday urged the Federal Government to address rising insecurity, economic hardship and the high cost of living affecting Nigerians across the country. In a statement issued by his media aide, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku criticised the Presidency’s comments on Nigeria’s borrowing profile, saying citizens are more concerned about food prices, safety and economic opportunities.
He said government borrowing should be tied to productive investments capable of improving infrastructure, agriculture, security and job creation.
“At a time when millions of Nigerians can barely afford one meal a day, the government should focus on solving the country’s economic and security challenges,” he said.
The former presidential candidate also expressed concern over worsening insecurity, noting that banditry and kidnappings have disrupted farming activities and affected livelihoods in many communities.
Atiku urged the Tinubu administration to prioritise policies that improve citizens’ welfare and restore confidence in the economy.
