The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority on Monday suspended its “No-pay, No-service” enforcement against domestic airlines over unpaid statutory charges, saying the decision was taken in Abuja to protect operational stability in Nigeria’s aviation sector amid rising fuel costs and financial pressure on operators.
In a statement signed by Director-General Chris Najomo, the authority said the suspension followed consultations with stakeholders and a review of current realities in the aviation industry.
The NCAA clarified that the decision does not amount to debt forgiveness, stressing that all affected airlines remain responsible for settling outstanding obligations owed to aviation agencies.
The regulator explained that the statutory charges are collected by airlines on behalf of aviation agencies and are used to support safety regulation, oversight and other critical aviation services.
The authority added that it would continue engaging airlines individually to recover the debts without disrupting operations in the sector.
