Youth and student organisations in Kogi State have applauded Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for approving a 100 per cent increase in their monthly subvention, describing the decision as a significant investment in youth development and effective representation.
The commendation was made on Tuesday during a press conference held at the OJN Foundation Secretariat, Zone 8 Roundabout, Lokoja, where representatives of various youth and student organisations praised the governor for recognising the importance of young people in governance and the state’s development process.
The increased subvention is expected to enhance the financial and operational capacity of beneficiary organisations, enabling them to implement programmes, address administrative challenges and discharge their responsibilities more effectively.
The press conference attracted leaders of the National Association of Kogi State Students (NAKOSS), National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Joint Campus Council (JCC), National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Kogi State Chapter, Nigeria Youth Congress (NYC), Association of Nigerian Female Students (ANFS), Kogi State Youth Parliament and other youth-based organisations.
Speaking at the event, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Youth and Student Matters, Hon. Oladele John Nihi, described the approval as a clear demonstration of Governor Ododo’s commitment to youth empowerment and the strengthening of institutions responsible for youth and student representation.
Nihi noted that the intervention would help address operational difficulties faced by the organisations while equipping them to contribute more effectively to policy advocacy, student welfare, leadership development and community engagement.
He added that the decision underscored the administration’s understanding of the importance of youth participation in governance and its willingness to support platforms that promote the interests and aspirations of young people.
In their separate remarks, the youth and student leaders expressed gratitude to the governor, assuring that the increased financial support would be utilised responsibly and transparently to deliver greater value to their members.
They also called on young people across the state to maintain constructive engagement with the government and remain committed to promoting peace, unity and sustainable development.
The leaders described the approval as a positive development for the youth constituency, noting that sustained investment in youth-focused institutions would strengthen their ability to contribute meaningfully to governance and the overall development of Kogi State.
They reaffirmed their support for the Ododo administration and urged the government to sustain policies and programmes that promote student welfare, youth empowerment and inclusive governance.
The organisations further pledged to make the increased subvention a catalyst for improved service delivery, responsible leadership and stronger representation of young people across the state.
