Ogun 2027: Daniel Challenges Abiodun

Senator Gbenga Daniel on Thursday challenged Dapo Abiodun to a live television debate over the 2027 Ogun East Senate race, saying during a TV interview that the governor should publicly address issues surrounding the contest and warning that any refusal would amount to “running away.”

Daniel threw the challenge during an appearance on TVC’s Beyond The Headlines, amid growing tension between both APC leaders over the Ogun East Senatorial seat ahead of the 2027 elections.

“This is an open invitation. If you don’t do that, my assumption is that he ran away,” Daniel said.

The former Ogun governor also urged the programme host to arrange a joint appearance quickly, insisting voters deserved to hear both sides directly.

The debate challenge follows the endorsement of Abiodun by APC stakeholders in Ogun East as consensus candidate for the Senate seat, a move Daniel has rejected while demanding open primaries.

Abiodun, who is serving his second and final term as governor, had yet to respond to the challenge as of the time of filing this report.
