Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi said in an interview aired ahead of Thursday on News Central TV that he would serve only one four-year term if elected president, insisting he would not remain in office beyond that period under any circumstance.
Obi said a single term would help promote stability and accountable leadership in Nigeria.
“I want to be a one-term president because of stability. I would not stay a day, with a gun to my head, longer than four years,” he said in a video clip from the interview.
The former Anambra governor also criticised the current administration’s economic policies, citing rising hardship, increased borrowing and worsening living conditions.
Obi, who contested the 2023 presidential election, has remained one of the leading opposition voices against the policies of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
