NJC Names 12 Appeal Justices

The National Judicial Council (NJC) on Thursday recommended 12 new justices for the Court of Appeal and suspended two judges for one year without pay over misconduct during its 111th meeting chaired by Chief Justice of Nigeria, Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, in Abuja.

The NJC said the appointments were aimed at filling vacancies created by retirements and strengthening justice delivery across the judiciary.

In a statement by its Deputy Director of Information, Kemi Babalola-Ogedengbe, the council recommended Yakubu Abdulhammeed Mohammed, Monisola Oluwatoyin Abodunde and 10 others as new Appeal Court justices.

The council also suspended judges Ibrahim D. Shekarau and Edward A. E. Okpe over judicial misconduct linked to ex parte orders.

It further dismissed 73 petitions against judicial officers for lack of merit and ordered further investigation into 11 others.
