Ododo Commends Tinubu as Kogi LG Elections Hold Peacefully

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for supporting security efforts that enabled the peaceful conduct of Saturday’s Local Government elections across the state.

Ododo made the commendation shortly after casting his vote at his polling unit in Upogoro, where he expressed satisfaction with the atmosphere surrounding the exercise.

The Governor described the peaceful conduct of the elections as a major improvement compared with previous Local Government polls, which he said were often characterised by violence, tension and bloodshed.

He attributed the development to improved security and the Federal Government’s support, noting that the prevailing atmosphere allowed residents to participate in the democratic process without fear.

“In the past, Local Government elections used to be bloody. But we thank Mr President for giving us that confidence and supporting us to provide security for our people. You can see that Local Government elections are now just like a carnival,” Ododo said.

He described the peaceful atmosphere as evidence of progress in tackling security challenges, adding that his administration remained committed to protecting lives and property with continued support from the Federal Government.

Ododo urged Nigerians to recognise the resources and sacrifices required to maintain security, stressing that the freedom with which residents and visitors move around Kogi State reflects the importance of peace to economic activities, social interaction and democratic participation.

The Governor also maintained that his administration would remain focused on delivering good governance rather than being distracted by controversies on social media.

On the electoral process, Ododo described the exercise as peaceful, free and transparent, while emphasising that opposition parties had a legitimate role to play in a democratic system.

However, he challenged opposition parties to demonstrate their achievements and explain how their political platforms had contributed to the development of Kogi State and the welfare of its people.

He expressed confidence in the All Progressives Congress (APC), acknowledging the party’s leadership, including President Tinubu, for its support towards the state’s development and security objectives.

The Governor said he was satisfied with the conduct of the election and left the remaining process in the hands of electoral officials after casting his vote.

He reiterated his appreciation to President Tinubu for the support extended to Kogi State, describing the peaceful exercise as an encouraging sign for grassroots democracy and governance.

Ododo called on political stakeholders and residents to sustain the peaceful atmosphere throughout the electoral process, stressing that security and credible elections remain essential to democratic progress in the state.
