Iranian authorities on Monday held mass weddings in Tehran for hundreds of couples who pledged support for the country’s war effort against the United States and Israel through a state-backed “self-sacrifice” programme.
The ceremonies took place in major public squares across the capital, including Imam Hossein Square, and were broadcast on state television to boost wartime morale.
According to Iranian media, more than 100 couples were married at Imam Hossein Square alone, while others took part in similar ceremonies in other parts of Tehran.
Participants had enrolled in a government-linked mobilisation scheme in which volunteers pledge support for national defence efforts during the ongoing conflict.
The weddings were conducted on stage by clerics, with couples arriving in military vehicles as crowds gathered to witness the events.
Iranian authorities said millions of citizens, including senior officials, have signed up for the mobilisation programme since the war began.
State media reported that the ceremonies coincided with a religious anniversary linked to revered figures in Shia Islam.
Officials said the mass weddings were part of efforts to boost public morale and demonstrate national unity during the conflict.
