Jonathan Will Be on 2027 Presidential Ballot, Coalition Convener Says

A coalition campaigning for the return of former President Goodluck Jonathan has declared that he will appear on the 2027 presidential ballot despite not yet formally accepting the proposal.

The Convener of the Coalition for Jonathan and member of the African Democratic Congress, Tom Ohikere, made the disclosure during an interview with ARISE TV.

Ohikere said Jonathan’s recent statement that running for president “is not a computer game” had been misunderstood by many Nigerians.

According to him, the former president only meant that contesting for Nigeria’s presidency involves a serious and complex process.

“When he said it’s not a computer game, he meant that contesting for president is not an easy process. A lot is involved. But all I want to say is that Goodluck Jonathan will be on the ballot,” Ohikere said.

He admitted that Jonathan had not officially accepted the coalition’s proposal but expressed confidence that the former president would soon make his position known.

“He never accepted. But in the next one or two days, he will make his pronouncement,” he added.

The coalition has continued to push for Jonathan’s return ahead of the 2027 general elections, describing his possible candidacy as a pathway to national unity and political stability.

The ADC is also being positioned as the platform for Jonathan’s potential presidential bid as opposition groups intensify political realignments ahead of 2027.

Jonathan, who served as Nigeria’s president from 2010 to 2015, lost the 2015 election to former President Muhammadu Buhari and conceded defeat before the final announcement of results.

However, his eligibility to contest the 2027 election remains a subject of legal debate, with a case currently before the Federal High Court challenging whether another presidential bid would violate constitutional term limits.
