Super Eagles Should Thrive in AFCON 2025 Group C, Say Ex-Internationals

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have been drawn into what appears to be a manageable group for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The team will face Tunisia, Uganda, and Tanzania in Group C. Both former players, Ifeanyi Udeze and Victor Ikpeba, are optimistic that the Super Eagles will progress past the group stage, emphasizing that while African football has grown stronger, Nigeria has the quality to advance.

Ifeanyi Udeze, a former Nigeria international, is confident that the Super Eagles can handle the challenges posed by their group opponents. He noted that despite the increased competitiveness in African football, Nigeria should not face major difficulties in this group. “It’s a straightforward group for the Super Eagles, and I’m sure they can qualify,” he said.

1998 African Footballer of the Year, Victor Ikpeba, also expressed optimism about Nigeria’s chances. He acknowledged that the competition would be tough but restated that Nigeria’s squad has what it takes to move past the group stage. “Every match will be difficult, but Nigeria has made progress in African football,” Ikpeba stated.

Ikpeba went on to highlight that while the Super Eagles’ group is manageable, other groups, such as the one containing Egypt, South Africa, and Angola, are much tougher. He pointed out that winning the AFCON will require overcoming strong teams, but Nigeria’s group offers a fair chance for advancement.

The former Monaco striker emphasized that football in Africa has evolved, with even traditionally weaker teams now more competitive. However, he believed the Super Eagles should have no problem securing their place in the knockout rounds, with matches against Uganda and Tanzania providing a realistic path to success.
