US supports NDLEA with interrogation facilities to boost anti-drug operations

The United States government has funded the installation of modern audiovisual interrogation rooms for the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency to strengthen Nigeria’s fight against drug trafficking.

The facilities were handed over in Abuja by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, which implemented the project with support from the US Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement.

UNODC Country Representative, Cheikh Toure, said Nigeria is no longer a permissive environment for international drug cartels, citing intensified enforcement by the NDLEA.

He noted that transnational drug trafficking continues to fuel corruption and violence, while commending the agency’s recent gains in arrests, seizures, and prevention efforts.

NDLEA Chairman, Buba Marwa, described the facilities as a major boost to investigative processes, noting that they would enhance transparency and professionalism.

He added that the development aligns with the agency’s ongoing digital transformation and commitment to global best practices in criminal justice.

Officials said the new interrogation systems are expected to improve evidence gathering and strengthen Nigeria’s capacity to combat drug-related crimes.
