Nigeria Democratic Congress House of Representatives aspirant, Caleb Okeke-Enyobi, on Tuesday said former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi influenced his decision to join politics during the opening of an NDC office in Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Okeke-Enyobi, who is contesting for Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency, said Obi’s leadership style inspired many young Nigerians to participate in governance.
According to him, politics became appealing to him after Obi emerged on the national political scene.
“The brand of politics that Peter Obi practises influenced my decision to contest,” he said.
He also described the proposed Obi/Kwankwaso alliance under the NDC as a platform capable of promoting national unity and strengthening the South-East’s political voice.
The aspirant promised to focus on youth empowerment, welfare and community development if elected.
He added that he had remained active in community service since returning to Nnewi in 2020 through youth development and educational support initiatives.
Speaking at the event, NDC chairman in Nnewi North, Prince Austin Onyekaba, praised the aspirant for establishing the party’s first office in the area.
He also described Peter Obi as a good leader and backed the call for an Igbo presidency.
