SDP Denies Submitting 2027 Candidate to INEC

The Social Democratic Party on Monday denied reports that it submitted the name of its 2027 presidential candidate to the Independent National Electoral Commission, saying no primary or national convention had been held to produce a candidate.

In a statement issued by the media aide to the party’s National Chairman, Shehu Musa Gabam, the SDP described reports of a convention in Bauchi State as false and misleading.

The party said the alleged gathering was illegal and organised by desperate politicians to create confusion within the SDP.

According to the statement, the party had not completed any process required under the Electoral Act 2026 for the emergence of a presidential candidate.

It added that Gabam remains the authentic National Chairman of the SDP based on INEC records and a Court of Appeal judgment.

The party said preparations were ongoing for congresses and a national convention that would eventually produce its candidate for the 2027 elections under INEC supervision.

The SDP also called on security agencies to investigate those behind the circulation of the report, warning against actions capable of causing political tension and public disorder.
