Businesswoman Aisha Achimugu has refuted reports that $13 million was recovered from her residence during a raid by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, stating that only $50,000 and N13 million were found.
Achimugu made the clarification during an interview on Channels Television on Monday, insisting that the widely reported figure was inaccurate.
According to her, the cash discovered during the operation included $50,000 and N13 million, which she said belonged to her mother, alongside her personal belongings.
She declined to comment extensively on the $13 million linked to her company, citing ongoing court proceedings, but maintained confidence in Nigeria’s judicial process.
The EFCC had previously declared Achimugu wanted over allegations of criminal conspiracy and money laundering. In March, a Federal High Court in Abuja ordered the final forfeiture of $13 million connected to her firm, Oceangate Engineering Oil and Gas Ltd, to the Federal Government.
The anti-graft agency alleged that the funds were sourced through unlicensed bureau de change operators and bank officials and used to pay signature bonuses for oil blocks acquired in 2024.
Responding to the claims, Achimugu said her company legitimately secured the oil assets through a transparent government bidding process conducted between 2022 and 2024.
She also questioned the accuracy of information published on the EFCC’s website, stating that it did not constitute a formal legal document presented to her.
The case remains before the court.
