The Lagos State Government has detailed modalities for the reintroduced monthly environmental sanitation exercise, warning that defaulters will face sanctions.
Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, said the exercise will hold on the last Saturday of every month between 6:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m., with controlled movement across the state during the period.
He disclosed that enforcement teams, including officials of Lagos Waste Management Authority and other agencies, will monitor compliance through inspections, adding that offenders will be punished in line with existing environmental laws.
Wahab noted that waste collection trucks would be deployed to evacuate refuse generated during the exercise, while incentives would be introduced to reward the cleanest communities and streets.
The government urged residents to participate actively in the initiative aimed at improving sanitation and environmental safety.
The exercise is scheduled to resume on April 25, nearly a decade after it was suspended in 2016.
