Ododo Commissions 80 Revitalized Health Centres,Hails Tinubu’s Health Sector Reforms

The Kogi State Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the State Primary Health Care Development Agency and the World Bank IMPACT Project, has commissioned the first phase of 80 revitalized Primary Health Care Centers across the state.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, in government house lokoja ,Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, described the event as a celebration of the state’s progress in healthcare delivery. He said the exercise also featured the presentation of the State Leadership Challenge Awards for outstanding local government performance, a stakeholders’ engagement session, and the handover of medical equipment and commodities donated by the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA).

Governor Ododo noted that the activities symbolize his administration’s vision of building a sustainable and people centered healthcare system that serves every community in Kogi State.

He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his steadfast commitment to transforming Nigeria’s health sector, describing the President’s investment in primary healthcare as a key step toward delivering quality medical services to rural communities.

Ododo also praised the appointment of Dr. Muyiwa Aina as Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of the NPHCDA, saying it reflects President Tinubu’s philosophy of entrusting critical institutions to competent hands.

According to the governor, the revitalization of 80 Primary Health Care Centres under the World Bank IMPACT Project and NPHCDA marks a monumental milestone for Kogi State. He said the facilities such as the Old Market Primary Health Care Centre, which serves as a prototype have been upgraded to modern standards that will enhance grassroots health service delivery.

Ododo added that the donation of vital medical equipment and commodities would ensure timely and efficient healthcare services in rural communities, noting that these interventions are tangible proof that, through partnership, vision, and commitment, we can deliver healthcare that truly serves the people.

He congratulated award recipients recognized for their outstanding performance in healthcare delivery, describing the recognition as both a reward for excellence and motivation for others.

The governor, however, cautioned against vandalism and misuse of public health facilities, warning that anyone caught sabotaging government efforts would face the full weight of the law. He emphasized that the protection and maintenance of public health assets are collective responsibilities meant to preserve the investments for future generations.

Governor Ododo commended the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abdulazeez Adams Adeiza, the Executive Director of the State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Muazu Musa Omeiza, and their teams for their dedication and outstanding results, adding that their efforts have continued to make Kogi State proud.

In his remarks, Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abdulazeez, said Kogi State’s healthcare story has changed remarkably under the Ododo administration, with visible achievements that will be remembered for generations. He urged stakeholders to maintain and sustain the newly revitalized centers .Dr. Abdulazeez also appreciated development partners for their consistent support in advancing the state’s health sector.

On his part, NPHCDA Executive Director, Dr. Muyiwa Aina, commended Governor Ododo for his exemplary leadership, describing him as a standout among his peers. He said the atmosphere at the event reflected the governor’s commitment to quality service delivery and stakeholder engagement, noting that Kogi State has never had it this good in terms of healthcare transformation.

Dr. Aina reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to supporting the state’s healthcare initiatives and disclosed that Kogi currently has a stock of 24 primary healthcare equipment sets ready for deployment. He urged community leaders and health workers to intensify vaccination campaigns and encourage mothers to vaccinate their children, stressing that increased vaccine uptake would help the state qualify for national recognition and awards in the health sector.
