Renowned Nigerian DJ, Oluwaforijimi Amu, popularly known as DJ Jimmy Jatt, shared his difficult health journey, including the challenges he faced after losing his sight in 2020 and being diagnosed with chronic kidney disease. Jimmy Jatt spoke openly about the trials that began after he decided to explore life beyond Nigeria, a move that ultimately led to a series of health setbacks.
He revealed that his health troubles began in 2020, following his decision to spend more time abroad. After years of living in Lagos, he wanted to experience life in Europe and America. However, travel restrictions during the pandemic kept him in Nigeria, where he suddenly lost his sight. He underwent surgery to restore his vision.
Soon after regaining his sight, Jimmy Jatt moved to the United States, where he was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease. Despite the severity of his condition, which required dialysis treatments, he continued to perform across the U.S. and Europe.
After some time in the U.S., he returned to Nigeria, where he underwent a kidney transplant. The procedure was successful, but he took a break from his schedule to fully recover. After his recovery, he went back to his career but made the decision to return to Nigeria permanently in December 2024, following a lengthy period abroad.
Reflecting on his experience, Jimmy Jatt emphasised that kidney disease is not always related to lifestyle choices. Despite having never smoked and quitting alcohol years before his diagnosis, he explained that his condition was the result of diabetes, a factor that contributed to his kidney failure.
