Ododo Presents Three Buses to Kogi Labour Unions, Pledges More Jobs

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare and inclusive governance with the presentation of three buses to organised labour unions in the state.

The buses were presented on Tuesday,at the Government House, Lokoja, as part of efforts to strengthen the operational capacity of labour organisations and improve their engagement with workers across the state.

While presenting the buses, Governor Ododo urged the labour unions to ensure their effective and responsible utilisation. He also assured workers that his administration would continue to address legitimate demands and improve their welfare as resources become available.

The Governor further disclosed plans to create additional employment opportunities in the state, assuring that the recruitment process would be transparent and focused on areas where manpower is required.

According to him, the initiative is aimed at reducing unemployment, strengthening public service delivery and providing opportunities for qualified citizens.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Labour Matters, Comrade Onuh Edoka, described the engagement as another demonstration of the administration’s commitment to inclusive leadership.

Edoka highlighted some of the government’s interventions in workers’ welfare, including the increase in the minimum wage, tax relief on minimum wage earners, a 35 per cent allowance for health workers, health insurance for workers and free medical care for pensioners.

He also noted that members of organised labour had been appointed into government positions, saying the move had given workers greater representation and a voice in governance.

The Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Kogi State, Gabriel Amari, commended Governor Ododo for what he described as his labour-friendly disposition and sustained attention to workers’ welfare.

Amari particularly appreciated the Governor’s efforts to sensitise workers on security matters across the state’s 21 local government areas.

He said the three buses would significantly enhance the unions’ ability to reach and engage workers across the state.

Similarly, the Chairman of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Ahmed Tijani Suleiman, commended the administration for maintaining regular engagement with organised labour and its commitment to improving workers’ welfare.

He urged for continued collaboration between government and labour towards ensuring better service delivery and improved conditions for workers in Kogi State.
