The Nigeria Labour Congress will hold a two-day meeting in Nigeria on May 25 and 26 with government officials, employers and development partners to review post-COP30 climate commitments and develop worker protection and green job policies aimed at preventing climate transition from worsening unemployment, poverty and inequality.
In a statement issued by the Head of the NLC Climate Change Coordination Office, Comrade Eche Asuzu, the Congress said the meeting would focus on climate governance, sustainable livelihoods and inclusive economic growth.
The NLC said the engagement became necessary as Nigeria moves towards cleaner energy and climate adaptation policies.
According to the Congress, stakeholders will discuss strategies for expanding green jobs and ensuring workers are included in climate decision-making processes.
The meeting will also review interventions under the NLC Climate Change, Green Jobs and Just Transition Programme supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.
The Congress added that the workshop would strengthen collaboration between labour unions, government and employers on climate-related policies.
It said the outcome of the meeting could shape Nigeria’s future climate governance and economic transition plans.
