Ododo Commissions GYB Model Schools, Deepens Push for Quality Education

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has commissioned the GYB Model Science Secondary School in Nagazi, located in Adavi Local Government Area of the state. He also commissioned the GYB Model Science Secondary School in Okebukun.

The separate event took place at the school premises, drawing dignitaries, education stakeholders, and members of the community.

Speaking during the commissioning, the governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building a knowledge driven society, with the ambition of positioning Kogi State as a leading knowledge hub in Nigeria in the near future. He described the mega school initiative as a strategic step toward achieving this vision.

According to him, the initiative focuses on establishing schools in strategic locations to ensure that every child, regardless of their community, has access to quality education in a modern and inspiring learning environment.

Governor Ododo emphasized that investing in education is key to societal stability, progress, and prosperity. He noted that his administration places high priority on education through deliberate and strategic investments across all levels, adding that a child who is properly guided today becomes a pillar of strength tomorrow.

The newly constructed GYB Model Science Secondary School, Nagazi, is part of this broader initiative. The facility features fully equipped classrooms with multiple arms, a well stocked library, functional staff rooms, an examination hall, and science laboratories. It also includes infrastructure that promotes students’ health and overall well being.

The governor urged members of the Nagazi community to take ownership of the school by protecting and preserving it, while encouraging students to take full advantage of the opportunity with discipline, focus, and determination.

In his remarks, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, commended the governor for impactful policies and interventions in the education sector. He highlighted ongoing reforms by the Federal Ministry of Education under the education sector renewal initiative, aimed at expanding access to quality education and equipping young Nigerians with industry relevant skills for employment and national development.

Also speaking at the event, the Kogi State Commissioner for Education, Hon. Wemi Jones, stated that the government is leveraging education as a tool to combat poverty, particularly through the construction and renovation of schools across the state.

On behalf of the Old Students Association, the Chancellor of Confluence University, Anthony Ehizojie Abumere ,expressed appreciation to the state government, describing the project as a landmark achievement.

The school’s principal also commended the presence and support of dignitaries, pledging to ensure the responsible use and proper management of the school’s facilities for the benefit of students and the wider community.
